Deskset overview
Deskset is a free, open-source desktop widget application built natively for macOS with Swift and AppKit. It brings clocks, weather, music controls, system monitors, notes and to-do lists to your desktop.
Features- Built-in Stationery widget collection with light and dark appearances.
- Import Rainmeter .ini skins and .rmskin packages, plus ZIP archives and skin folders.
- Customize widgets in Skin Studio using code editing alongside a live preview.
- Desktop widgets for music playback, audio visualization, calendars, timers, photos and app launchers.
- Native builds for Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
Deskset is licensed under GPL-3.0; the example skins use the MIT license. It is an independent project, not an official Rainmeter release. Windows-only DLL plugins and Windows programs are unsupported. The application is not yet notarized by Apple; see the project README for installation and compatibility notes.
What's new in version 0.2.1
Added
- Update checks and notifications. Check for updates from the Deskset menu or General settings. Deskset checks daily by default and automatically prompts once for each newer version; automatic checks can be turned off. View Update opens the GitHub release page to download the version for your Mac. Updates are not downloaded or installed automatically.
Changed and improved
- A styled disk image. The installer now has a custom background, a drag-to-Applications arrow, and English and Chinese installation instructions.
- Guided installation and replacement. Open Deskset from the disk image to install it or replace an existing copy. The installer verifies the copied app's signature, prevents downgrades, asks you to quit running copies, and keeps the previous application available for recovery if replacement fails.
Fixed
- Fixed player controls and audio spectrum recovery after quitting and reopening Music.
Upgrading
- Quit Deskset and save any edits before replacing the application. Your skins, settings and desktop layout are preserved.
- Still supports macOS 13 and later on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
